Nowadays, Cathartes aura is used in the Mexican traditional medicine for the empirical treatment of cancer, injuries, infections and burns (Jacobo-Salcedo et al., 2011). In ancient maya culture, Cathartes aura, commonly known as Ch'om, was used for the empirical treatment of rabies, wounds and syphilis (Corona-Martinez, 2008). According to Anzures y Bolaños (1983), in prehispanic times there were 102 ingredients from animal origin used to treat several diseases. ![]() Cathartes aura (Linnaeus, 1758) ( Cathartidae), commonly known as Turkey vulture, is a bird distributed through the American continent.
